A letter from Shana Colbin Dunn
owner of Kismet and True Boutique
On May 11th, 2006, I opened my first Kismet in a small space on 32nd and Meade Street. Almost 12 years later, there it sits, still doing what it does, offering fun, unique, casual clothing, accessories, and, of course, jewelry. For over a decade, Kismet has been expanding and there are now 3, with the second location in the Cherry Hills marketplace and the third in the Lowry Town center.
Last March, I decided to open Kismet's sister store, True, at the Stanley Marketplace in Aurora, CO. I call True "a holistic boutique" because, in addition to offering beautiful clothing, jewelry and accessories, we also have a curated section of books on wellness and a selection of body care products. We have also started an ongoing series called Women's Wellness Wednesdays, which are intimate workshops on topics that range from energy healing and tapping into your own intuition to how to reduce the stress and anxiety that pop up in everyday life. The goal of True is to offer our clients a way to adorn themselves not only from the outside in, but also the inside out.
When we get dressed in the morning and we are comfortable in our clothes, that helps us get through the day and, when we incorporate self care wellness routines, that also helps. I know these things have helped me and I want to be able to offer this support to the women of Denver.
Recently, I had the very good fortune of meeting with Vanessa Barcus, the owner and founder of Goldyn boutique, located in the Highlands. She shared with me that she is moving on to a new chapter in her life and the conversation progressed quickly to an immediate and unanimous decision: Goldyn would turn into True. The transition is seamless- we will inherit her incredible decor and display space including the utterly spectacular wallpaper photographed by Kristen Hatgi-Sink. We also share similar values of kindness and integrity and have run our businesses centered around these values. The mission of Kismet and True is to inspire happiness in our staff, our customers, our vendors and our community while offering the highest quality products at reasonable prices.
I am humbled and honored beyond belief to open the second True location in the Goldyn space. I have always been in awe of Vanessa's immensely creative talent to curate such a beautiful store. She will be sorely missed by the Denver fashion scene. To honor what she's built, we will have a small section called "Goldyn for True", where we'll house some of the most coveted and iconic lines originally carried by Goldyn. We are also creating a custom collection of The Woods Fine Jewelry for True, so fans of The Woods will have something to look forward to!
I am thrilled to introduce True to the LoHi neighborhood. I am thankful for the last 12 years and for the little store that started in the Highlands. On behalf of myself and my team, we look forward to connecting will you.
